Signalling cases and QoS management within TISPAN NGN residential environments
Date
2007-04Abstract
The TISPAN group from ETSI is currently working on the specification a Next Generation Network (NGN), based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) as the service control architecture. This NGN provide a extensible platform that supports the delivering of next generation multimedia services with QoS requirements over multiple access network
technologies. Nevertheless, the QoS solutions developed by
TISPAN in the first release of specifications for the NGN are
mainly focused on the access network, and QoS coverage
is not provided for the core network and the residential
environment, where the end user terminals are located. In
this paper a proposal is presented to extend the TISPAN
QoS solution to the residential environment, by means of
a Residential Gateway (RGW). This RGW will process the signalling messages that are exchanged between the end user
terminals and the Core IMS in the NGN, performing an
adequate QoS resource management within the residential
environment. Several signalling scenarios are presented,
covering the cases related to the establishment and release
of multimedia sessions within the TISPAN NGN. For each
case, the procedures executed in the RGW in respect to the
signalling and QoS management are detailed.
